# Quick Start Guide

> Create an account, complete your profile, and play your first tournament match.

export const supportUrl = "https://discord.com/invite/mettlestate";

export const siteUrl = "https://mettlestate.com";

export const productName = "Mettlestate";

Everything you need to go from no account to playing your first match.

## Before you start

* **A modern browser** — current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge
* **A stable internet connection** — most match problems trace back to this
* **A valid email address** — used to verify your account
* **A game account** — required for most events, and you can link it later

## Step 1 — Create your account

Go to <a href={siteUrl}>{productName}</a> and choose **Get Started**, then:

1. Pick a username — up to 16 characters, using letters, numbers, underscores, and dashes
2. Enter your email address and choose a strong password
3. Submit, then click the verification link sent to your inbox

You are signed in automatically once your account is created. See [Registration Process](/user-onboarding/registration-process) for detail.

## Step 2 — Complete your profile

<Tip>
  Complete your profile before you try to register for an event. Most events check eligibility at registration, and an incomplete profile is the most common reason a registration is blocked.
</Tip>

* **Preferred games** — pick up to five so relevant events surface first ([more](/players/preferred-games))
* **Linked game accounts** — link the accounts for the games you intend to compete in ([more](/players/linked-game-accounts))
* **Personal details** — name, date of birth, contact number, and country; some events verify age, region, or phone number
* **Profile picture and bio** — optional ([more](/players/customisation))

## Step 3 — Find your way around

* **Home** — your dashboard and recent activity
* **Events** — browse and filter every tournament and competition
* **Wallet** — your balance, prize money, and transaction history
* **Profile** — settings, linked accounts, and customisation

Depending on the deployment you may also see a shop, prize draws, and challenge-based leaderboards.

## Step 4 — Join your first event

1. Open **Events** and filter by game, date, or format
2. Read the event rules and schedule before committing — check you are free for **all** match times
3. Click **Join Event** and choose Solo or Team
4. Complete any eligibility requirements the event asks for
5. Confirm your registration

Full detail in [Joining An Event](/events/registration).

## Step 5 — Check in

<Warning>
  Registering is not enough. Almost every event requires a separate check-in shortly before it starts, and if you do not check in you cannot play. Check-in usually opens around 45 minutes before the first stage, but this is set per event.
</Warning>

Open the event page and click **Go to Check-in**. Playing as a team, your captain also marks who is playing and who is a reserve.

## Step 6 — Play your match

1. Wait for your match time — you are notified by email and in-platform
2. Open the match page and **Ready Up** once the match goes active
3. Join the lobby using the details on the match page
4. Play the match under the event rules
5. Submit your result and **upload a screenshot** — this is what settles a dispute
6. Your opponent confirms or disputes; an admin steps in if needed

More in [Matches](/events/matches).

## Step 7 — Get paid

Verified prize money lands in your wallet automatically. From there you can withdraw it, or move it within your team or organisation where that is permitted. See [Wallets](/finance/wallets).

## Common mistakes to avoid

* **Registering but not checking in** — the single most common reason players miss events
* **Not linking a game account** — blocks registration for most events
* **No result screenshot** — leaves you with nothing to prove your case in a dispute
* **Not readying up** — if no result is submitted by the deadline, players who never readied up are forfeited
* **Ignoring the match deadline** — an unanswered schedule proposal can hand your opponent an automatic win

## Getting help

* **[Troubleshooting](/events/troubleshooting)** covers the problems players hit most: no-shows, disputed scores, TBD opponents, and registration failures
* Use the event chat during an event — admins are in there and can act while it still matters
* Check the event's FAQ section on the event page
* <a href={supportUrl}>Join the community</a> for anything else
